Blue Monday is often marked on the third Monday of January, which this year falls on 19 January.

For many people, this time of year can feel particularly tough – shorter days, colder weather and added financial pressure after Christmas can all take their toll.

If you’re feeling the strain, it’s important to know that support is available and you don’t have to manage everything on your own. Below, we’ve outlined the financial and emotional support we can offer through both our own service and our trusted partners.

Financial support

After the festive season, money worries are common. Whether you’re concerned about rising bills, debt repayments or simply making ends meet, our advisors are here to help you explore options that could ease some of that pressure.

Our BudgetSmart tool can help you find ways to reduce your utility bills, including checking for discounts and support you may be eligible for.  We can also help you access wider support through our dedicated panel of trusted partners, where needed.

Emotional support

Money worries don’t exist in isolation. At this time of year, many people also experience low mood, anxiety or emotional strain – whether linked to seasonal changes or ongoing mental health challenges.

We can help you access wider support through our dedicated panel of trusted partners, including:

  • Mind – supports people experiencing a wide range of mental health challenges. call: 0300 123 3393
  • Shout – a free, confidential 24/7 text service for anyone struggling with their mental health. Text ‘REFRESH’ to 85258.
  • Samaritans – offers support for anyone feeling overwhelmed, isolated or experiencing suicidal thoughts. Call 116 123 (free, 24/7).
  • CALM – provides practical advice and support for managing low mood, stress and the winter blues, alongside help for anyone feeling overwhelmed or struggling to cope.

Supporting Brew Monday

We’re supporting Samaritans and their Brew Monday campaign, which also takes place on the third Monday of January and encourages people to reach out to others for a cup of tea and a catch up. Rather than focussing on the idea of a difficult ‘Blue Monday’, Brew Monday highlights the value of connection and listening to one another – simple actions that can make a meaningful difference to someone’s wellbeing.
