Am I eligible for a debt solution if I’m self-employed or on benefits?
Yes, we offer support for people who are self-employed or on benefits. We’ll help you find the right solution based on your situation.
What happens if my financial situation changes during the plan?
What if I already have a debt solution in place? Can I switch to PayPlan?
Yes, it’s possible to switch to us in some solutions. Let us know what’s already in place and we’ll assess how we can help you better.
Will getting debt advice affect my credit score?
No, seeking debt advice from us won’t affect your credit score. We don’t carry out credit checks at the advice stage. With your permission, we’ll ask to look at your credit file but this is just a soft search so we can get a full picture of what you owe to advise you further.
However, if you choose to enter a debt solution, it could impact your credit score. Each solution has different effects, which we’ll explain to you fully before you decide to go ahead with anything.
Do I need to be in a specific amount of debt to get help?
No, you can get help no matter how much debt you have. Some solutions may have specific criteria, but our team will match you with the options that suit your situation best.
What types of debt can PayPlan help with?
We can advise you on all types of debt, though not every debt solution can include all types of debt.
Debt can be divided into:
- Priority debts, which have serious consequences if left unpaid such as eviction or legal action (examples include rent/mortgage arrears, council tax arrears and court fines)
- Non-priority debts, which have less immediate consequences, but are still important to manage (examples include credit cards, overdrafts and store cards)
- Secured debts, which are tied to an asset which can be repossessed if payments are missed (examples include mortgages, secured loans and car finance)
- Unsecured debts, which aren’t linked to assets but can lead to court action if left unpaid (examples include personal loans, payday loans and catalogue debts)
- Business debts, which relate to running a business or being self-employed (examples include business loans and VAT arrears)
